How could video games benefit us and our kids ?

Since the early years of video games, there have been arguments about their pros and their cons. Despite many arguments against them, video games have gained prominence for their clinical benefits. Through many scientific studies, scientists have found evidence that video games can help improve cognitive function, mental health, and even treat or cure various illnesses.

The benefits from video games start very early in life, starting as early as when children can begin to comprehend simple words and numbers. Children begin to broaden their ideas based on their environment, so what they are exposed to is very important during the years when their brains are still developing and growing accustomed to how to respond to different triggers in their environment. And I think this is why the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), an agency that regulates software, rates games based on content; it helps to provide a guideline on what the game contains and how it could affect a child.

How could technology serve learners?

The explosion in popularity of all different kinds of electronic devices raises a host of new possibilities for higher education providers, but there are a number of questions that still need to be answered. Online learning, devices and apps are hot topics in education. Though I tend to become very excited about the potential of new technologies, it is important to remember the purpose for implementing them. Does the technology assist students in achieving the objectives of the course? Does it improve outcomes? Increase learning? Improve access? As educators we should carefully consider how much would students depend on technology and whether or not learners are going towards the right direction with all the technology they might have!

Technology & teachers in Schools.

No one can deny that technology has become a permanent feature in our life. From sites like Facebook and Twitter to applications like Microsoft Word, it’s hard to go a day without using some kind of modern piece of technology. But do people really know how to use these great advances? Do they even understand how most of the gadgets and websites they use work?

That is one of the major issues facing lots of schools today. How do we integrate technology into education, and to what extent do we teach students about technology? Obviously not every student needs to know how Twitter’s API works, but I think that they should at least be introduced to the concept of tweeting. Employers are looking for more than what schools are teaching nowadays. For instance, take resume building. As a part of my school’s graduation requirements, you must prepare a portfolio and participate in a sort of pseudo-interview with people in the local community. Not once during the entire process of putting together a resume and content for the portfolio was it suggested that I mention my blog or Twitter account. Now this should be expected as Twitter is relatively new, and not many educators understand it.

But how can this change? Many educators refuse to take time out of their schedule to learn a new technology especially third world countries, let alone something that is seen as “social” and irrelevant to a learning environment. We could try teaching these new technologies during Professional Development days, but these days are few in number. How can we expect teachers to integrate social media when they don’t understand it themselves?

Excel

Excel can save lot of time if the teacher use it in education, because it is so neatly laid out in rows and columns, it is a quick way to produce a list of things about a statistical work or a simple need in our daily life. For example, you can make a birthday list with names in the left column and birth dates in the next column. You can then sort the list by birth date and then back to name sequence. We use functions and formulas to create new data in the cells or to operate upon the data in the cells. In the birthday list it is possible to use a formula that tells Excel to use the today function as we did last class and the date of birth to create another column called “Age.” This doesn't do Excel justice because it can serve the needs at home for such things as birthday lists, budgets, and checking account registers. But it also, because of the formulas, functions and other capabilities, is used in businesses to acquire data from databases and manipulate that data to present bills, invoices, accounting reports, and on and on. I think Microsoft Excel is obviously the best product. This program provides a wide scope of options and user modifications (control elements, programming language, table formatting, etc.). This predestines it for use in engineering, industrial and technical calculations.

Save the Students Works

In fact when we integrate the technology in education we can avoid some mistake which will happen in education process. For example, a lot of students loss their files or any paper because those students use flash memory or the computer. Therefore, students can avoid loss of their important files, projects and assignments by uploading them into free cloud storage's such as Drop Box and Google Drive. Moreover, we should as a teacher encourage the students to use some website that can save their work forever.
